Most of the aging problems to our body are caused by free radicals or unstable oxygen molecules. These free radicals provoke many diseases and also make us grow old soon. Free radicals are also known as oxidants. To fight these free radicals and thus the aging process we need to take proper amount of anti-oxidants in our diet.

Anti-oxidants are naturally occurring nutrients that are found in certain fruits and vegetables. Anti-oxidants help to keep our skin firm by protecting the skin’s collagen and elastic tissue from oxidants. They help to neutralize the effect of free radicals and thus keep ourselves younger for a longer part of time.

Different food items are rich in anti-oxidants but some are worth mentionable. Fruits like berries, black grapes have a great amount of anti-oxidant. Green leafy vegetables, fish like salmon, whole grain cereals, tomatoes, tea, nuts like walnuts also contain a good amount of anti-oxidant.

Although oxygen is essential for breathing, it may cause some harm to our body. It initiates a process in our body called oxidation, the formation of free radicals. Just as oxidation of iron when exposed to air or water causes rust, oxidation by free radicals causes aging in our body. (Nice example to understand!). Thus to counter effect these free radicals anti-oxidants are required by our body. They prevent the loss or damage of cells by destroying these free radicals. Thus if you are in the process of keeping yourself young and following some anti-aging regime never forget the benefits of anti-oxidants and plan your diet with food containing these nutrients.
